Training & Consultation Specialist - Positive Behavior Supports in Schools

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Training and Consultation Specialist for The Boggs Center on Developmental Disabilities for the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

This position provides advanced level consultation, technical assistance and training services consistent with identified project goals and objectives. The Training and Consultation Specialist is primarily responsible for the delivery of training and consultation support to public New Jersey schools on the implementation of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. Responsibilities for this position include participating in the planning, coordination and provision of training; curriculum development, coordination and provision of technical assistance to network schools through email, phone and on-site school/district support as prescribed by the project implementation protocol; completing administrative duties (e.g., helping to maintain the website, maintaining technical assistance logs, etc.); responding to requests for information; and other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


  • Prepares for trainings, training set up / clean up (which includes lifting and transporting training materials), maintenance of the project suite and resources, responsiveness to and participation in team discussions and coordination with NJ DOE-OSE.
  • Manages an extensive data archive of school information and products, procuring designated products from schools, maintaining up to date files and electronic folders for schools, maintaining up to date documentation for technical assistance logs and service delivery data.
  • Maintains regular contact with schools through email, phone and on-site support as prescribed by the project technical assistance protocol; providing solution focused assistance that advances schools’ implementation of the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports framework at all intervention tiers.
  • Supports school teams through the development of/sharing of materials, products and resources; participating in and collaborating with project team members to problem-solve and develop technical assistance supports.
  • Uses a high-quality training style that is engaging and informed; delivers training content as designed by the project Director.



  • Master’s Degree in Special Education or a related field plus two (2) years of experience implementing Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports in public schools; or a Doctorate Degree in Special Education or a related field plus one (1) year of experience; or a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education or a related field (e.g., Education, Psychology, Rehabilitation Counseling), plus four (4) years of experience.
  • Experience with public schools.
  • Experience delivering training and providing consultation support for behavior intervention planning.
  • Equivalent education, experience, and/or training may be substituted for the educational requirements.
