Current Residents: Class of 2023

Mary Cate Earnhardt, MD

Hometown: Morristown, NJ

Undergraduate institution: Duke University

Medical School: Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School

What made you choose RWJMS? 1) My #1 goal when choosing a residency program was to find somewhere that would help me grow into a competent, confident, and resilient physician. After working with RWJMS senior residents as a medical student and reflecting on my extensive interactions with faculty, I knew Robert Wood was that “somewhere” for me. 2) RWJMS felt like home. Obvious reasons for this include my longstanding familiarity with the hospital and the close proximity to my family and friends. A less obvious, albeit more important, reason is that RWJ felt like home because of the people. The clinical faculty are intelligent, resourceful, supportive, and approachable. The residents are committed to learning and working hard, but they’re also fun and truly love and enjoy each other. And of course, Dr. Ebert is the most dedicated, experienced, and reliable residency program director, bar none.

I never leave home without: Lip balm and a hair scrunchie (I always have extra so if you need, just ask!)

Caroline Kwon, MD

Hometown: Warren, NJ

Undergraduate Institution: Wellesley College

Medical School: Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School

What made you choose RWJMS? The opportunity to make a positive difference in a program that I know well as a medical student so that we can continue to grow in all the best ways

What is the sound you love the most? There are so many: music with a solid underlying bass. The noise of the waves from the ocean during nights. First cup of coffee pour. Pretty much the sounds of all storms (... although I don’t think I’d like the sound of an approaching tornado. I have never been near one, so I wouldn’t know).

Last stamp in passport: Hanoi, Vietnam

If I weren't an ObGyn, I would be: In this current season of life, back in the classroom as a high school teacher!

What do you think is the greatest invention of all time? The wheel, cheese, penicillin, seltzer…

What is your favorite smell in the whole world? Freshly brewed Philz Coffee, and smells that bring back solidly good memories

If you could time travel, where would you go? An epic time travel excursion would start with: July 21, 1969 first steps on the moon (but only from the viewpoint of Neil Armstrong), then go 100 years in the future because it would be amazing to see the advancements we’ve made on hopefully most fronts (definitely not 50,000 years or something outrageous like that because if humanity wasn’t around, I’d be so, so sad), and then end my day on July 13, 1985 at Queen’s Live Aid Concert!

Selena Park, MD

Hometown: Plainsboro, NJ

Undergraduate Institution: Drexel University

Medical School: Drexel University College of Medicine

What made you choose RWJMS? The amazing group of friendly residents who not only love their job but each other; the unyielding support from the staff, especially from Dr. Ebert, and how much they care about the success of their residents; and finally, strong subspecialty exposure of all fields.

Favorite sports team: Fly Eagles fly, on the road to victoryyyyy! E-A-G-L-E-S! Eagles!

Favorite board game: I could play Settlers of Catan for days and days straight.

If I could have any super power, it would be: To fly. I’m scared of heights but the thought of never having to drive again is absolutely fantastic.

If I weren't an ObGyn, I would be: A pastry chef. Baking, eating, and maybe even hosting a tv show on food network sounds like the dream.

Favorite avenger: Tony Stark… I mean, Iron Man.

What is on the top of your bucket list? To hike up to Machu Picchu. Hopefully soon!

What is your favorite smell in the whole world? There’s nothing like the smell of freshly cut grass.
