Pain Medicine Fellowship Program

Our pain medicine fellowship is a 1 year program dedicated to advanced training in the management of acute, chronic, and oncology related painful conditions presenting in a busy metropolitan hospital. 

The fellows rotations are on the acute and clinic pain services as well as the departments of Neurology, PMR and Psychiatry. Our hospital is a 412-bed tertiary care facility in a metropolitan area of Central New Jersey.

Our teaching service consists of 4 pain medicine board certified anesthesiologists, and four specialists board certified in the specialties of PMR, Psychiatry, and Neurology.

The pain fellow will train at the RWJUH main hospital and the affiliated Plum Street Ambulatory Surgery Center as well as the Dept of PMR at JFK hospital in Edison NJ.  There is a two week sports medicine ambulatory office rotation at the private practice office of one of our staff PMR physicians

The Chronic Pain Management Service evaluates and treats a diversity of pain problems such as: Discogenic and Axial low back pain, Discogenic and Axial neck pain, neuropathic pain, myofascial pain Post Cervical Laminectomy Pain, Post Lumbar Laminectomy Pain and headaches. We also work with the Oncology Divisions at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and CINJ to provide the most up-to-date pain management techniques for cancer pain patients, including implanted epidural catheters and neuroablative blocks under fluoroscopic and CT scan guidance.

In our Pain Management Fellowship Program, we perform many different kinds of nerve blocks including, cervical, thoracic and lumbar epidural blocks, brachial plexus blocks, lumbar-sacral plexus blocks, stellate ganglion blocks, lumbar sympathetic blocks, facet joint blocks, nerve root injections and cranial nerve blocks under fluoroscopic guidance, and other peripheral nerve blocks. We also perform state of the art pain treatments such as cryoanalgesia, RFTC neurolysis, spinal cord stimulators, percutaneous disc compression, mild epiduroscopic procedures, discography, nucleoplasty and spinal opioid infusion.

We offer a diverse range of services and provide Pain Management Specialty training with weekly didactic activities which greatly enhances the knowledge and expertise of our pain specialists.
