The Boggs Center on Developmental Disabilities seeks a talented and energetic leader in community supports for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The successful candidate will lead The Boggs Center’s initiatives in Community Training and Technical Assistance to promote full participation of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families in their communities. S/he will develop community partnerships with individuals with disabilities and families as well as other organizations. The position also supervises community supports project team members. The position reports to the Executive Director.
This is an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to build on The Boggs Center’s prior work in the full range of community supports for adults with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Center has a thirty-three year history of collaborating with individuals with disabilities and families as well as state agencies and private organizations advocating for and providing services and supports for people with disabilities and their families.

The Boggs Center
The Boggs Center is New Jersey’s federally designated University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) and is part of Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Department of Pediatrics. Since its inception in 1983, the Center has emphasized a community based, lifespan approach to meeting the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
The Boggs Center provides community and preservice student training and technical assistance, conducts research, and disseminates information and educational materials. Activities of The Boggs Center are guided by our Consumer Advisory Council and partnerships with people with disabilities, families, state and community agencies, and policy makers.
The faculty member will conduct community training and technical assistance, teach, and engage in scholarship regarding community supports for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. She/he will also serve as Coordinator for the UCEDD Core Function of Community Training and Technical Assistance and will supervise community supports project team members.
A doctorate or equivalent terminal degree in education, social or behavioral sciences, social work, public health, public policy, or a related field. ABD candidates may be considered for appointment at Instructor level.
Demonstrated expertise in intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Demonstrated expertise in program management and staff supervision.
Demonstrated expertise in professional development activities concerning community supports for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Current knowledge of best practices in cultural and linguistic competence.
Current knowledge of adult learning principles and educational technology, including distance learning and online instruction.
Current knowledge of disability policy.
Demonstrated ability to acquire external funding.
Ability to represent the Center within Rutgers and other institutions of higher education and to work collaboratively with representatives from a diverse range of groups, including state and federal agencies, advocacy organizations, schools, employers, and disability service providers.

Training & Consultation Specialist - Positive Behavior Support in Schools
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Training and Consultation Specialist in the Department of Pediatrics at The Boggs Center on Developmental Disabilities at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Provides advanced level consultation, technical assistance, and training services consistent with identified project goals and objectives. The Training and Consultation Specialist is primarily responsible for delivery of training and consultation support to public New Jersey schools on the implementation of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports.
- Participates in the planning, coordination and provision of training and curriculum development.
- Coordinates and provides technical assistance to network schools through email, phone and on-site district support as prescribed by the PBSIS initiative’s protocol.
- Completes administrative duties (e.g., helping to maintain the website, maintaining technical assistance logs, etc.)
- Responds to requests for information.
- Participates in duties related to working within a team structure.
- Maintains school specific documentation.
- Delivers training on the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports framework.
- Participates in training to be a SWIS / PBIS Apps facilitator.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Master’s Degree in Special Education or a related field plus two (2) years of experience implementing Positive Behavior Support in public schools; or a Doctorate Degree in Special Education or a related field plus one (1) year of experience; or a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education or a related field (e.g., Education, Psychology, Rehabilitation Counseling), plus four (4) years of experience.
Knowledge of the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports framework is required. Experience conducting Functional Behavior Assessments and designing Function-Based Intervention Plans is required. Experience with public schools is required. Computer proficiency in MS Word and PowerPoint and use of internet required.
Experience with urban and/or economically disadvantaged schools is preferred.
