This presentation will explore the concept of supported decision making for people with intellectual disabilities.  It will provide a definition of the concept; it’s theoretical basis; formal and informal examples of it in practice; examples of jurisdictions that have used it; reasons why the concept is gaining resonance among many, including its support in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities; and potential difficulties with its implementation and proposed responses.
