Cultural competence and linguistic competence are widely recognized by policy makers, educators, researchers, and service providers as fundamental aspects of quality in health and human services. Many organizations, including those concerned with disabilities, continue to struggle with the full integration of cultural and linguistic competence into their values, policies, structures, and practices. This lecture will apply conceptual frameworks of cultural and linguistic competence to individuals and organizations that support adults with developmental disabilities and their families.
