The Boggs Center Remembers Ina White

Ina WhiteIna White, who passed away on July 1, 2018, was an extraordinary advocate whose contributions focused on making New Jersey accessible to all.

Ina served as the Community Outreach Coordinator at The Boggs Center on Developmental Disabilities since 1983. She was an adjunct instructor in Special Education at Kean University, where she lead the Adult Social Group which also provided volunteer opportunities for Kean students, inspiring many to pursue degrees in Special Education. Ina shared her expertise with dedicated service on a broad array of committees and task forces, including the NJ Transit ADA Task Force, the NJ Coalition for the Advancement of Rehabilitation Technology, the State Special Education Advisory Council, and the Union County Advisory Board for the Disabled. For 10 years, she served as the chair of the Barrier-Free Subcode Committee of the New Jersey Construction Code Advisory Board. A lover of theater, Ina expanded access for all audiences as a founding member of the Cultural Access Network Project and the Paper Mill Playhouse Access Advisory Committee, providing training on disability access and awareness to theaters including the George Street Playhouse.

A dedicated daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, Ina inspired generations of advocates. Ina’s contributions were recognized by the Community Health Law Project Ann Klein Advocacy Award, the NJ Commission in Recreation for Individuals with Disabilities, the Union County Human Rights Commission, and the Jonathan Dayton Regional High School Graduate Alumna Award.

Ina is deeply missed.
