Elective in Emergency Department Bedside Ultrasound (EMED 9010)

*Please note that this elective will only be available to medical students between July and December.*

Under the leadership of Dr. Christopher Bryczkowski, students taking this elective have a unique opportunity to learn how to perform and interpret bedside ultrasound in the Emergency Department clinical setting. This experience is only offered at a handful of universities across the nation. The elective will be scheduled for 4-week blocks and is limited to one fourth-year student per block. Resuscitation Elective in Emergency Medicine (EMED 9014)

This elective is designed to provide RWJ medical students who have completed the required EM clerkship (not at RWJUH) and then subsequently chosen emergency medicine as their specialty an opportunity to rotate at RWJUH and work in an emergency department with an emergency medicine residency.  The resuscitation elective in emergency medicine is offered blocks 1-4 and again blocks 9 and 10, and is limited to one fourth-year student per block.   The objective of this elective is to increase your resuscitation and ultrasound skills. Requirements include logging at least 4 resuscitations and performing an RUQ ultrasound as well as a transabdominal ultrasound on a pregnant patient.  Pre-requisites include the advanced clerkship in emergency medicine. Basic Elective in Emergency Medicine (EMED 9012)

We are pleased to offer a basic elective in emergency medicine.  Course objectives include the ability to obtain an appropriately tailored history and physical, synthesize a differential and integrate medical knowledge into the ability to care for and make decision on the acutely ill emergency department patient.  The elective is offered blocks 1-5 (with a maximum of 2 students), and then again blocks 9 and 10 (with a maximum of 1 student).  There is a mandatory orientation day, as well as a prerequisite of completion of internal medicine and surgery.   Psychiatry, ob/gyn and EM are encouraged but not required.  For visiting students a group SLOE can/will be written upon request.  For further information on course EMED 9012 click here.


Visiting Students

All registration for elective courses are handled by the RWJMS Registrar's office. Please note that we cannot provide parking, meals or housing for visiting students.

Short-Term Apartment Rentals
University Facilities and Capital Planning is now arranging short-term apartment rentals for faculty and staff who need temporary housing, including visiting and international scholars. Inventory consists of studio and one- and two-bedroom apartments in Highland Park, New Brunswick, and Piscataway (Busch Campus). Apartments are fully furnished and appointed and include utilities, cable television, and internet service. Leases can be as short as one month and as long as one year.
