Summer Programs

SEARCH/Community Oriented Primary Care (COPC) Summer Assistantship (preclinical program)

An opportunity to work with community partners to promote the health of an underserved population and to develop the skills and teamwork needed to enhance community health.

Co-directed by:

  • New Jersey Primary Care Association (SEARCH program)
  • UMDNJ-RWJMS Department of Family Medicine and Community Health
  • UMDNJ-SHRP Physician Assistant Program

Funded by U.S. Dept of Health & Human Services, Health Resources & Services Administration

Program Components

  • Implement community-based health intervention (full-time for six weeks)
  • Engage in interactive programs teamed with an interdisciplinary group of students (including allopathic, osteopathic, physician assistant, social work, nurse practitioner and others)
  • Attend trainings, develop new student/community networks and benefit from mentoring/advising from dedicated faculty and program participants
  • Produce a final project report and poster to be presented at the closing event

 

  1. Timeframe: 6 weeks, June/July
  2. Stipend offered
  3. Eligibility: Students who have completed their first year in good academic standing are encouraged to apply. Priority will be given to New Jersey residents and National Health Service Corps scholars.
  4. Requirements: Competitive application process includes interviews by co-directors and site supervisors
