Year 1: Preparation for specialty education in orthopaedic surgery

Orthopaedic surgery (6 months)

General surgery (1 month)
Trauma surgery (1 month)
Neurosurgery (1 month)
Vascular surgery (1 month)
Surgical ICU (1 month)
Musculoskeletal Radiology/Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (1 month)



Year 2: Orthopaedic principles and reinforcement of surgical skills

Pediatric Orthopaedics (3 months) - RWJUH
Trauma/Upper Extremity (3 months) - JSMC
Hand (3 months) - SPUH
Arthroplasty/Spine (6 weeks) - SPUH
Sports/Foot & Ankle(6 weeks) - SPUH

 

 


Year 3: Improvement of surgical skills

Orthopaedic Trauma (3 months) - JSMC
Sports/Spine (3 months) - RWJUH
Arthroplasty (3 months) - RWJUH
Upper Extremity (6 weeks) - SPUH
Sports/Foot & Ankle (6 weeks) - SPUH

 

 


Year 4: Advanced surgical skills

 *involvement with local/university sports teams
  Musculoskeletal Oncology (6 weeks) - MSKCC
  Pediatric Orthopaedics (3 months) - RWJUH
  Orthopaedic Trauma (2 months) - RWJUH
  Upper Extremity (2 months) - SPUH
  Spine (3 months) - RWJUH

  Research (4-6 weeks)

 


Year 5: Preparation for independent practice and/or fellowship

  Arthroplasty (3 months) - RWJUH
  Sports (3 months) - SPUH
  Trauma (3 months) - RWJUH

  Sports/Trauma(3 Months - JSUMC)
