  Ernest Leva, M.D.

  Division Chief

  Associate Professor of Pediatrics






Dr. Leva graduated from the University of Medicine and Surgery, L'Aquila, Italy in 1985.  His internship and residency, along with a chief resident year, were completed at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School encompassing the Bristol Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital and St. Peter’s Children’s Hospital, both located in New Brunswick.   After completing his residency, Dr. Leva joined the faculty of the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, orchestrating the birth of pediatric emergency medicine in New Brunswick.  From its non-existence to its current departmental status, Dr. Leva was instrumental in planning all aspects of its evolution.


Currently as an Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Department of Pediatrics, Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson

Medical School, Dr. Leva serves as the division director.  He has also served in multiple capacities for the State of New Jersey.  From its inception, Dr. Leva has served on the Child Fatality, Near Fatality Review Board of the State

of New Jersey, an advisory board to both the Commissioner of Health and the Commissioner of Children’s Services, evaluating fatalities and near fatalities and reporting on improvement processes to both commissioners.  He has served on the Emergency Medicine Services for Children Committee of the State of New Jersey, an advisory

board to the Commissioner of Health for over 10 years.  He has acted both as a member, vice chair, and chair

of the committee.  Dr. Leva has served in numerous capacities for the New Jersey Chapter of the American

Academy of Pediatrics; as the Section Chair of Emergency Medical Services for Children, multiple times as district representative, as well as on other multiple committees.   Dr. Leva is board certified in both General Pediatrics

and Pediatric Emergency Medicine. His academic interests lay in general office preparedness and pediatric emergency care services in general.



  Niel Miele, M.D.

After graduating from medical school at the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education and the State

University of New York Medical Center at Syracuse, Dr. Niel Miele completed 3 years of pediatric training at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, PA.  He worked in the Pediatric Emergency Department at

the University of Rochester, during which he completed a Fellowship in General Academic Pediatrics.  He served

as the Assistant Director of the Pediatric Emergency Departments at Temple University Children’s Medical

Center, and the Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo.  In 2007, Dr. Miele joined the faculty at

Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson as an Associate Professor of Pediatrics. 


Since joining the Department, Dr. Miele has served as the Assistant Program Director of Pediatric Emergency Medicine.  He has presented nationally on Emergency Department Quality Improvement projects, and is

currently involved in research regarding Quality Improvement, Lyme disease, and sickle cell disease. Dr. Miele is Board Certified in Pediatric Emergency Medicine.



 Richard Brodsky, M.D.

Dr. Brodsky attended The College of New Jersey in Ewing where he received his Bachelor of Science in Biology. 

Upon graduation he attended what was then known as The University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ

(Now Rutgers New Jersey Medical School) where he graduated in 2005.  Afterwards, he attended residency

at the Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital.


Upon finishing his pediatric training, Dr. Brodsky attended fellowship at The Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters where he studied Pediatric Emergency Medicine.  Now, after becoming board certified in both

Pediatrics and Pediatric Emergency Medicine, he has returned to New Jersey and to the RWJBarnabas system.  Here, he has taken the role of Director of Pediatric Telemedicine and is implementing an initiative to

virtually connect all of our hospitals to the pediatric resources that are needed throughout the system.




Matthew Pepper, M.D.

Dr. Pepper completed his medical degree at the State University of New York Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. He completed his pediatrics internship and residency at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Dr. Pepper is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.





  Marinelle Quim, M.D.

Dr. Quim completed her Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship at the Children's Hospital of New Jersey

at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. Prior to that, she completed her pediatric residency at Steven

and Alexandra Cohen Children's Medical Center in New York and pediatric internship at Dignity Health

St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Arizona.  She received her medical degree from Our

Lady of Fatima University in the Philippines. Dr. Quim is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric

Emergency Medicine.



  Joseph Reich, M.D.

Dr. Reich attended medical school at the State University of New York Health and Science Center graduating  in 1988 .  He completed his residency and graduated from the Pediatric Residency Program at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1991. It  was  there that he developed an  interest in  emergency  medicine that  brought him  to  Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in 1992. Here he has been involved with the

pediatric emergency department for over twenty years, watching it grow by leaps and bounds. 


Dr. Reich has   a  special  interest  in  community  health  care  and  offers a  consultation  service  called

"Office  Preparedness". In this course he helps private and clinic practices gear up for pediatric emergencies

in their offices.

  Rachel Greico, M.D.

After attending medical school at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., Rachael Grieco completed

her 3 years of pediatric residency training at Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson University. Dr. Rachael Grieco

joined the faculty at Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in 2009 as Clinical Instructor of Pediatrics

in the division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine.


Dr. Rachael Grieco's academic interests lie in pediatric resident education. Her clinical interests lie in express

care medicine and improving patient flow through the emergency department. Dr. Rachael Grieco is board

certified in General Pediatrics.
