About the Department of Radiation Oncology at Rutgers University

The Department of Radiation Oncology at Rutgers University is devoted to providing exemplary care for our patients. We are led by an internationally renowned team of physicians, scientists and physicists who are dedicated to patient care, research and educating the clinicians and scientists of the future.

We are home to several technologies that can produce highly conformal dose distributions within the body. These technologies include intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), intracranial stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), stereotactic ablative body radiotherapy (SABR), proton-beam therapy, and high-dose-rate image-guided brachytherapy.

Scientists and many physicians in the Department have active, federally funded research programs dedicated to understand the molecular and genetic causes of cancer. Our physicians and scientist are working to move these ground-breaking scientific advances in basic and translational research to the clinic to improve therapies by personalizing cancer treatment based on the underlying genetic and molecular causes of each patient’s disease.

The department is dedicated to training the next generation of scientists and physicians. Doctoral students from Rutgers University are learning to perform cutting-edge research in our laboratories at Rutgers Cancer Institute while our physicians are committed to the clinical training of the next generation of radiation oncologists, medical physicists, dosimetrists and radiation therapists. Our Department is home to New Jersey's only Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) approved Radiation Oncology Medical Residency program as well as the state’s only Commission on the Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs (CAMPEP) accredited Medical Physics Residency Program.
