RWJMS Hosts Symposium on Global Women’s Health

The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School recently hosted a symposium on global woman’s health. The event was organized and chaired by Charletta Ayers, MD, MPH, (pictured on right) associate professor and vice chair, Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences, and chief, division of general obstetrics and gynecology. Yaw Bio, MPH, PhD, (pictured on left) a visiting professor from Ghana, served as guest speaker, addressing faculty from four departments. Other speakers included Javier Escobar, MD, professor of psychiatry and associate dean for global health, and Karen W. Lin, MD ’89, associate professor of family medicine and community health. National Lipid Association Presents Top Award to Avedis Khachadurian, MD

The National Lipid Association (NLA) presented its 2012 Distinguished Achievement Award to Avedis Khachadurian, MD, emeritus professor of medicine, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, in recognition of his accomplishments in the field of clinical lipidology. The NLA gives its top award to only one recipient each year. Khachadurian was the founding chief of the division of endocrinology, metabolism and nutrition, holding that position from 1973 until 2002. The Avedis and Laura Khachadurian Laboratory for Metabolic Research at RWJMS was established and named in his honor in 2009.

Robert Like, MD, MS, Member of Inaugural Class of Renowned Scholars of Health Disparities

Robert Like, MD, MS, has been named to the W. Montague Cobb/NMA Health Institute's Inaugural Class of Senior Cobb Fellows in Health Disparities. He is a professor of family medicine and community health and director of the Center for Healthy Families and Cultural Diversity at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. The 24 senior fellows in this inaugural group are among the most renowned scholars and researchers in the fields of health and health care disparities.
