Suhayl Dhib-Jalbut, MD, Named President-elect of International Organization for Multiple Sclerosis
New Brunswick, NJ -- Suhayl Dhib-Jalbut, MD, of Princeton, NJ, professor and chair of the Department of Neurology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, was named president-elect of the Americas Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ACTRIMS). The mission of ACTRIMS, an incorporated non-profit international organization, is to promote knowledge and research collaborations in multiple sclerosis (MS).
An expert in multiple sclerosis, Dr. Dhib-Jalbut graduated Alpha Omega Alpha from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon, and completed his neurology training and a neuro-immunology fellowship at the University of Cincinnati and the National Institutes of Health, respectively. He has served on several national and international scientific committees and as associate editor for the Journal of Neuroimmunology. Dr. Dhib-Jalbut has published nearly 120 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals. His research interests include how MS therapies work, biomarkers of MS treatment response, and neuroprotective gene therapy. Additionally, he conducts basic and clinical research in multiple sclerosis funded by the National Institutes of Health and the National MS Society.
Dr. Dhib-Jalbut served as secretary/treasurer of ACTRIMS for the past three years and chaired its international congress in Montreal in 2008.
ACTRIMS seeks to encourage young clinicians and researchers to continue their careers in multiple sclerosis and other demyelinating diseases. Through ACTRIMS, MS clinicians and researchers serve as the US and Canadian counterpart to ECTRIMS, the European Committee on Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis. Since its founding in 1995, ACTRIMS has collaborated with the American Neurological Association and the Consortium of MS Centers. The National MS Society (USA) and the MS Society of Canada serve as collaborative partners to ACTRIMS, providing organizational and logistical support.
