Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Sends 160 New Physicians to Hospitals Nationwide

 

Laughter, tears and shrieks of joy erupted at noon on Friday, March 16, on the New Brunswick and Camden campuses of UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS) moments after 160 medical students opened envelopes that contained their futures. Today was Match Day across the United States, the day when thousands of medical students discover where they will spend their years of residency training following their upcoming graduation. Once again, RWJMS’ match rate of 100 percent exceeded the national average of 95 percent.

In New Brunswick, there are 116 students graduating in 2012.  In Camden, there are 44 students graduating in 2012.

Of the 160 graduating students, 43 matched to programs in New Jersey and of these, 30 students matched to UMDNJ programs.

Eighteen percent of our graduates will be surgeons and five percent general surgeons. Twenty-two of our graduates will train at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, our principal affiliate hospital. Graduating students from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School also will attend residency programs at Brigham & Women's Hospital, Yale, Columbia and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, as well as Northwestern and the University of California at San Francisco.
