Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical Group Hosts Free Skin Cancer Screening on May 3

skin cancer screening

Somerset, NJ -- The Department of Dermatology at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical Group will hold a free skin cancer screening for the public. The screening is part of a national program sponsored by the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD). According to the AAD, regular screenings are essential because skin cancer, the most common form of cancer, has a 95 percent cure rate if detected early.

The screening will take place on Saturday, May 3, at 1 World’s Fair Drive, Suite 2400, in Somerset, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  The screenings are free and available by appointment only by calling 732-235-5782.

During the appointments, physicians will conduct thorough screenings and discuss the results with the patients.  Screenings will include a visual inspection of the patient’s entire body, in addition to questions regarding family history and sun exposure and protection.

Patients will be encouraged to make a follow-up appointment with their own doctor or with a medical group dermatologist to discuss the outcome of the screening, if necessary.  Patients also will be provided educational material about skin cancer, self-examinations and sun safety.
