Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Class of 2015 Learns of

Residency Placement During Nationally held Match Day

New Brunswick, NJ – At noon today, shrieks of joy, as well as some tears, erupted during the Match Day celebration at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, moments after fourth-year medical students opened envelopes that contained their futures. Held simultaneously across the United States, Match Day is when thousands of medical students discover where they will spend the next three to seven years of residency training following their upcoming graduation. Of the students who participated in the Match, 96 percent the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School’s students, matched to a residency of their choice, exceeding the national average of 94 percent. The medical school has exceeded the national match rate each year for more than 10 years.

Gracias, MD, interim dean of Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School to the medical students and their families, just before the students opened the envelopes at noon. “As you continue into your next medical training opportunity, you will, I’m sure, continue the tradition of excellence that you have set during medical school,” he said. “On behalf of the faculty at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, I am very proud of the class performance in the 2015 Match.”

There are 129 students graduating from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School on May 18; of the graduating students 18 matched to programs in New Jersey, and of these, 14 students matched to Rutgers Biomedical and Health Science programs.

More than 37 percent of the students matched into primary care programs including family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, and obstetrics and gynecology, 13 percent will be surgeons. Graduating students from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School will attend residency programs at Boston University, Brown University, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Columbia University, the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Johns Hopkins, Yale University, and Weill Cornell, among many others.

 

According to the National Residency Matching Program, which coordinates the matching process, more than 40,000 applicants participated in the 2015 Match, the largest in history.
