The school has enjoyed a fascinating journey from those origins, including its evolution from Deans of Robert Wood Johnson Medical School: 1962–’70: DeWitt Stetten Jr., MD, PhD 1971–’75: James W. Mackenzie, MD 1977–’78: David J. Gocke, MD a two- to a four-year school, its renaming as Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in 1986, and the restoration of the Rutgers name, when it integrated with Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. 1979–’87: Richard C.
