Educational Program:

The following undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate education is provided on-site:

  • Three-year Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship training
  • Monthly residency training in the fundamentals of pediatric critical care
  • Monthly fourth year sub-internship rotation through the PICU
  • Monthly third year medical student pediatric clerkship rotation through the PICU
  • Pediatric Critical Care Nurse practitioner students from the University of Pennsylvania clinical roation through the PICU
  • Pediatric Critical Care Staff Nurse training

The Division is responsible for and supervises the PGY-2 residents on the required PICU rotation and supervises the PGY-3 residents on their transport and PICU rotations. Supervision of the third year pediatric clerkship and the fourth year sub-internship rotations through the PICU is also provided. The Division, in conjunction with the Department of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Trauma Education at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, is also responsible for the organization and teaching of Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) for residents and other trainees. Members of the Division continue to organize and run the pediatric transport training course for the pediatric residents, hospitalists, nurses and respiratory therapists. All sedation training and credentialing for the administration of sedation for pediatric patients is run by the division. Finally, the division provides supervision of monthly "mock codes" as well as the transport review conferences.
