DDLS Spring 2018Addressing Challenging Behaviors: Assessment, Pharmacology, and New Strategiesto Reach Underserved Areas
Julie P. Gentile, MD, DFAPA Patients with intellectual disabilities may present with aggression toward self or others in clinical settings, and often present to mental health clinics when in fact they have undiagnosed or under-treated medical conditions. In this session, Dr. Gentile will use clinical vignettes with the chief complaint of aggression or other behavioral presentations and illustrate diagnostic and assessment considerations to determine etiology of behavior. Specific areas of pharmacologic management and needs related to this specialized population will be reviewed. Statewide grant-funded programs (including Telepsychiatry) to reach underserved areas and to solve supply/demand problems will also be shared. Audio File (mp3 file) PowerPoint Slides (PDF) |
