Supported Decision-Making: Change the Culture, Change the World! May 17, 2018 - Duration 2.75 hrs Jonathan Martinis, Esq., JD “Physical or mental disabilities in no way diminish a person’s right to fully participate in all aspects of society” – The Americans with Disabilities Act. And, yet, for over 2,000 years, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities have had their rights routinely removed. This presentation will discuss considerations that should be made with guardianship. It will also introduce and discuss the benefits of Supported Decision-Making as an alternative to guardianship as a way to improve life outcomes. Finally, the presentation will discuss ways to access and coordinate Supported Decision-Making services throughout life, from pre-k to end of life planning.
