Fellowship Educational Curriculum

Clinical responsibilities

  • Full-spectrum Women’s health sessions in an academic Family Medicine clinic including care and work up for sexually transmitted infections, menopausal symptoms, abnormal uterine bleeding, contraception management, and Family Planning counseling and procedures
  • Weekly procedure sessions at Planned Parenthood
  • Elective rotations in Breast Disorders, Urogynecology, Reproductive Endocrinology, Transgender Health, depending on fellow’s interest
  • Continuity primary care in an academic family medicine and/or student health office at Rutgers University
  • (optional) advocacy training through the Leadership Training Academy (LTA) with Physicians for Reproductive Health (dependent on acceptance into the LTA)

Procedural training

  • Training in first trimester procedural and medication abortion care
  • Training in full spectrum contraception including LARC methods (IUDs and contraceptive implants)
  • Training in ultrasound for first trimester pregnancy dating
  • Training in colposcopy, endometrial biopsies, Bartholin cyst care, cryo-therapy

Teaching and scholarly responsibilities

  • Teaching medical students and residents Women’s Health care in a primary care setting and Planned Parenthood
  • Participation and presentation in regional and national conferences
  • Presentations during Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School’s Sexual health week
  • Being a liaison to medical schools in the area including leading Papaya workshops, contraception/pregnancy options counseling lectures
  • Lectures for the Family Medicine Residents on various Women’s Health topics
  • Work closely with Women’s Health Faculty to produce an independent scholarly project
