Fellowship Overview

The Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School/Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey Hematology/Oncology Fellowship is a three-year combined hematology and medical oncology fellowship training program. The fellowship is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). The Hematology/Oncology fellowship program is one of eight fellowships within the Department of Medicine. The 3-year fellowship is comprised of 12 fellows.

Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, one of the National Cancer Institute’s designated comprehensive cancer centers nationally, and Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School encompassing 21 basic science and clinical departments, are part of Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. The principal hospital affiliate of Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey and Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School is Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, which is part of the RWJBarnabas health system of hospitals. The fellowship program provides in-depth clinical training and research experience in hematology, hematologic malignancies and bone marrow transplant, and solid tumor oncology. The fellowship provides training in the setting of multiple multidisciplinary subspecialized and disease specific clinics, cutting edge clinical trials, and basic and translational research with mentorship provided by subspecialized faculty in hematology, hematologic malignancies and bone marrow transplant, and solid tumor oncology. Currently there are approximately 30 faculty across these areas of hematology/oncology. Training opportunities in related areas such as radiation oncology, palliative care, surgical and gynecologic oncology, hematopathology, and blood bank also are provided.
