Movement Disorders and Parkinson's Disease Center Overview
The Rutgers Health Movement Disorders and Parkinson's Disease Center provides consultation, diagnostics, and long-term care of patients with movement disorders. The center is recognized by the American Parkinson’s Disease Association as a Center for Advanced Research and has credentialing from the Parkinson’s Study Group. It has worked with nationally recognized organizations to raise awareness of neurological issues including the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation, the International Essential Tremor Foundation, and CurePSP.
Our physicians specialize in treating such conditions as:
- Ataxic disorders
- Dystonia (torticollis, blepharospasm, Meige syndrome)
- Essential tremor
- Huntington's disease
- Parkinson's disease
- Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP)
The Rutgers Health Movement Disorders and Parkinson's Disease Center also offers a Huntington's disease clinic and a psychogenic movement disorders clinic, and participates in experimental clinical drug trials. The treatments we provide include:
- Atypical Parkinsonism clinic (for PSP, multiple system atrophy, corticobasal degeneration, and other disorders)
- Botulinum treatment for dystonia (involuntary, excessive muscle contractions)
- Deep-brain stimulation for Parkinson's disease, dystonia, and tremor
Physicians at the center are faculty members of Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School or Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. Both are parts of Rutgers University, one of the top research institutions in America.
