Providing Respite:
Supporting People and Families Across the Lifespan

Providing Respite cover

Providing respite is rewarding work. Becoming a respite provider offers an opportunity for those currently working as Direct Support Professionals, as well as those interested in exploring the field of direct support, to gain additional experience and work closely with families. This booklet offers an overview of respite and highlights the positive impact that respite makes in the lives of people with disabilities, seniors, and their families.  Providing Respite: Supporting People and Families Across the Lifespan was made possible through a partnership between the New Jersey Department of Human Services’ Division of Developmental Disabilities and Division of Aging Services, New Jersey Lifespan Respite project, and The Family Resource Network.

December 2014. 16 page booklet.

This web-based training, Providing Respite: Supporting People and Families Across the Lifespan, was created to promote the importance of respite work. It presents a preview of a job for those who might be interested in becoming respite providers, and also orients new respite workers to the job that they are about to begin.  This training will address what respite is and the impact respite has on the lives of people with disabilities, seniors, and their family caregivers.
