Every weekday, Maria Ciminelli, MD, resident alumnae, commutes 25 miles south from her home in Somerset to the brand-new Freehold Family Health Center in
Monmouth County, where she directs a residency program and treats patients at the federally qualified health center.
While she also teaches at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, as an assistant professor of family medicine and community health, and serves as the newly elected president of the New Jersey Academy of Family Physicians (NJAFP), Dr. Ciminelli manages to carve out time to treat the men, women, and children who arrive without insurance at the clinic, which opened in March 2019.
