Burton J.Tabaac, MD, Vascular Neurologist, and Resident Alumnus, Appointed Stroke Center Director

To Burton J. Tabaac, MD, the human brain is the “final frontier in medicine.” Eager to explore and expand understanding of that frontier, he entered the Neurology Residency Program at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
In 2018, Dr. Tabaac went on to a rigorous, one- year fellowship in cerebrovascular neurology in the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Vascular neurologists focus on the treatment and manage-
ment of stroke. The high incidence of the disease, as well as its acuity and the need for an intensive level of response, drew Dr. Tabaac’s interest.
The program provided experience with the broad spectrum of patients with cerebrovascular disease, from managing the care of those who are critically ill, to rehabilitation, to reduction of the risk of secondary occurrence, as well as early detection of stroke. In addition, Dr. Tabaac participated in diagnosis and treatment of rare cerebrovascular diseases and gained experience in administrative areas that interest him, such as
