Telemedicine Guide

Robert Wood Johnson Medical School recently deployed a new Telemedicine program on Doxy.me. This new platform enables RWJMS clinicians to be responsive to the needs of patients and to conduct patient sessions in a safe and convenient manner. This platform becomes particularly important in the wake of the current coronavirus and avoids unnecessary physical office visits. 

Doxy.me is a Telemedicine video telecommunications technology platform that provides real-time health care to patients at a distance. It can be used on computers, tablets and smartphones.

Once your account is created you will receive the following:  

• Your personalized URL
• Your own waiting room
• Access to your meeting history
• Access to the Doxy.me Help Center

1. Patient Calls in for an appointment.
2. Front Desk enters the patient’s email addresses into CB/IDX.
3. Front desk schedules session with the patient and sends an email to the patient with the physician's unique URL.
4. Physician initiates a session with the patient using DOXY.me
5. The patient describes the reason for the visit.
6. Physician documents in Centricity including ordering labs, prescribing medication and ordering follow-ups.

Definitions to clarify the many terms associated with telehealth:

1. eHealth is defined by the World Health Organization as “the use of information and communication technologies for health.”
2. Telehealth is defined as a broad collection of electronic and telecommunications technologies that support health care delivery and services from distant locations. Telehealth technologies support virtual medical, health and education services.
3. Telemedicineis defined by the Federation of State Medical Boards as “the other means between a physician in one location, and a patient in another location, with or without an intervening health care provider.” 
4. eConsults or an electronic consultation is defined as an asynchronous, non-face-to-face consultation between a primary care clinician and a specialist using a secure electronic communication platform.
