Bio

Catherine Chen, MD, FACP, is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS) with a clinical focus on hospital medicine. Integrating her background in Biomedical Engineering with her expertise as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, she specializes in systems-based improvements that bridge high-value clinical care with environmental stewardship.

Dr. Chen’s academic interests focus on competency-based medical education innovation. She works to empower the next generation of physicians with the tools necessary for modern, climate-aware practice through Quality Improvement and Sustainable Healthcare Education. She is a founding member of Clinicians for Climate Action NJ and has been nationally recognized for her leadership in integrating planetary health into medical curricula. As an avid interprofessional collaborator, she frequently partners with specialists across disciplines to develop multifaceted curricula and has mentored a wide range of trainees, from medical and master’s students to research interns and faculty colleagues.
