H. Liesel Copeland is the Assistant Dean of Admissions and Medical Education at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Beyond the Office of Admissions work and counseling of pre-med students, her responsibilities include conducting educational research in all areas of medical education.  Dr. Copeland earned her BS at Loyola University of Chicago and her PhD at the University of Virginia.

She conducted her postdoctoral training at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. While at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, she conducted research in the areas of patient education, graduate education, and continuing medical education. She and Marian Hewson were honored with having their paper in the Academic Medicine Classics list.

Dr. Copeland spent many years conducting program evaluations and focused on science education programs as well as training programs for interdisciplinary research.  Her research interests are in alternative assessments, defining and promoting interdisciplinary approaches, health literacy, and evaluation use.

Her recent work has looked at the role of professional identity in success as a graduate student and assessing the validity of admissions methods. Dr. Copeland is an active member of the American Evaluation Association and the American Educational Research Association.
