Bio
Steven Levin is an Associate Professor at the Department of Family Medicine. He obtained his A.B. from Brown University in 1981 and his M.D. from Emory University School of Medicine in 1985. Following this, he completed his Family Medicine Residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in 1988, and a Faculty Development Fellowship at the University of North Carolina in 1989.
Dr. Levin is board-certified in Family Medicine, with recertifications in 1994, 2000, 2007, and 2017. Additionally, he received certification as an HIV Specialist from the American Academy of HIV Medicine in 2009, with recertification in 2016.
He currently serves as the medical director of the Eric B. Chandler Health Center. His professional focus lies in providing primary care to patients who lack proper access to healthcare. He has a particular interest in the treatment of HIV, addressing healthcare disparities, promoting community-oriented primary care, and advocating for multiculturalism. Dr. Levin is actively involved in various committees and boards dedicated to addressing the needs of underserved populations.
Throughout his career, Dr. Levin has been recognized for his excellence and dedication. He is a member of prestigious honor societies such as Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Xi, and Alpha Omega Alpha. In 1998, he was honored with the University Excellence Award from UMDNJ for his distinguished service and outreach to the external community.
In 2000, he received the Humanism in Medicine Award from the Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey. Dr. Levin's commitment to patient care and advocacy has been further acknowledged through awards such as the New Jersey Family Physician of the Year in 2005 from the New Jersey Academy of Family Medicine, and the American Family Physician of the Year in 2007 from the American Academy of Family Medicine.
