External Rotators From Another Institution

Housestaff, Residents and Fellows, from other training programs interested in a clinical rotation in one of the RUTGERS Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Graduate Medical Education programs are welcome to apply.

Please contact the Department Program Coordinator/Assistant of the desired RUTGERS Robert Wood Johnson Medical School program to determine if the program is currently accepting rotators and cc the GME Program Manager. The recommended time to contact a program is at least two (2) to three (3) months prior to the start of the rotation.

Completed applications are reviewed and approval is granted on a case-by-case basis provided trainees meet specific qualifications and entry requirements. Generally, trainees will be considered if they:

  • Are in good standing in an accredited training program
  • Obtain approval and support to rotate from a RUTGERS Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Program Director
  • Complete and submit all rotator documentation and properly enroll prior to start date

Application process:

Applicants wishing to apply for a rotation at RUTGERS Robert Wood Johnson Medical School program should complete and submit the following documents to the respective RUTGERS Robert Wood Johnson Medical School program at least two (2) months prior to the expected rotation start date:

  1. By completing the form, TEMPORARY ROTATION AT RUTGERS ROBERT WOOD JOHNSON MEDICAL SCHOOL FOR RESIDENTS AND CLINICAL FELLOWS FROM EXTERNAL GME PROGRAMS (4 pages), you, your Program Director, and the Rutgers RWJMS Program will provide attestation to the following:
    1. Support indicating housestaff in good standing from home institution’s Program Director
    2. Approval from RUTGERS Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Program Director
    3. Malpractice insurance coverage verification from home institution (must indicate coverage through rotation timeframe). Coverage must be acceptable to RUTGERS Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Risk and Claims.
  2. By completing the form, Medical Rotation Clearance Form, your institution acknowledges that an annual or the initial Health Assessment within the past twelve (12) months certifying fitness for duty for the rotator's work functions in a health care facility.
  3. Cleared a criminal background check.
  4. Provide rotation goals and objectives
  5. Complete the RUTGERS Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Confidentiality Statement – found in GME website
  6. Current Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  7. Copy of valid/unexpired picture identification (driver's license, passport, etc.)
  8. Copies of BLS, ACLS, or PALS valid certification through the rotation timeframe, if required by RWJMS program.
  9. Copy of medical license, DEA, or training permit from trainees Board of Medical Examiner's Office
  10. US Medical Graduates-Copy of Medical School Diploma or Foreign Medical Graduates- Copy of ECFMG certificate/Fifth Pathway Certificate

The resident will receive notification from the RWJMS Program, with copy to the RWJMS GME Office, of the approved application, rotation. If necessary by the department, the resident will be provided with instructions for completing any mandatory online training as well as instructions to obtain an identification card/parking. The resident must provide all online training certificates to RWJMS program no less than ONE WEEK prior to start date. It is the rotator's responsibility to make arrangements for housing and transportation as necessary.
