Message from the Alumni Association President

Robert Wood Johnson Medical School alumni and the Alumni Association were busy this spring!

Nearly 100 alumni from 22 different states and 175 students attended the Second Annual Virtual Career Night on March 1, 2022. This was the largest event in Career Night’s 33-year history.

The following month, alumni supported students by attending the 10th Annual Scholarship Gala. The Gala, which serves as the school’s alumni reunion, was the highest grossing event in the school’s history. Distinguished Alumnus was Sukumar Nagendran, MD ’94.

Further supporting students, the Alumni Association proudly donated an additional $25,000 to its Scholarship Endowment, which was created in 2018. Our decision to contribute additional funds stemmed from a desire to help students in a time of great need when national medical school debt is rising and financial strains as a result of COVID-19 have impacted many of our students.

Later in the spring, young alumni joined a Financial Fitness for the Physician webinar, during which guests learned about financial wellness and tips for the future from certified financial planners.

As president of the Alumni Association, I invite you to continue to connect with your alma mater. Explore our events (virtual and in person), update your contact information, sign up for mentoring students, meet the Alumni Association Board, and more at rwjms.rutgers.edu/alumni.

Deborah Saez-Lacy, MD ’86

Alumni News: Meet our Newest Alumni

Congratulations to the Class of 2022—the first to return to in-person Match Day and Convocation ceremonies since the pandemic!

Out of the 171 graduates who participated in the National Resident Matching Program, the school had a 95.9 percent Match rate! Of the nearly two dozen specialties in which the students matched, internal medicine, pediatrics, anesthesiology, obstetrics/gynecology, and orthopaedic surgery were among the most popular. We look forward to welcoming these new alumni into our community.
