Bio
Cande Ananth, PhD, MPH is a tenured distinguished professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. His empirical research spans perinatal and women’s health. He is the recipient of the 2021 Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences Senior Clinical or Health Sciences Investigator Award. He has published over 550 papers in peer-reviewed journals, almost 50 editorials/commentaries, and over 30 book chapters.
Dr. Ananth holds joint appointments in the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology, Rutgers School of Public Health, and the Department of Medicine, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, NJ. He is a member of

Research
Dr. Ananth’s research interests fall under three broad areas:
- The impact of ischemic placental disease and preterm delivery on long-term cardiovascular disease and other chronic conditions that affect health of women and offspring along the life course.
- Impact of air pollution and extreme weather exposures on ischemic placental disease.
- Development and applications of innovative analytic approaches, including causal models and mediation methods, to studies in human reproduction.
Other Accomplishments
Dr. Ananth is a fellow of the American College of Epidemiology. He has received several prestigious awards, including the “2001 Outstanding Young Professional Award” conferred by the national coalition for excellence in Maternal and Child Health Epidemiology and 13 national health organizations.
Since 2012, he is the Editor-in-Chief of Paediatric and Perinatal Epidemiology—the only specialty journal that caters to the fields of pediatric and perinatal epidemiology. He is a statistical editor for the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
