Dr. Moledina is a physician-scientist with an active NIH-funded research program and a world-renowned expert on acute interstitial nephritis. He was the first to demonstrate the diagnostic potential of urine biomarkers for this disease and is working to bring these biomarkers to the clinical bedside. He also created and validated an electronic health record-based diagnostic model for acute interstitial nephritis, now part of the MDCalc suite of calculators. Most recently, he has used tissue spatial transcriptomics and urine proteomics to evaluate mechanisms underlying this disease to guide newer therapies. He also established and ran the Yale Kidney BioBank that has recruited over 2,000 participants with various kidney biopsy-confirmed diagnoses.
