Gloria Bachmann, MD, MMS

Brief Narrative/Bio
Dr. Bachmann is a nationally and internationally recognized physician who has moved health care to the next level in many areas. At Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS), she is a Professor of Ob/Gyn & Medicine, the Associate Dean for Women’s Health, the Co-director of the Women’s Health Institute, and the Medical Director of the PROUD Gender Center of NJ. She also has a joint appointment with the Rutgers School of Public Health and is on many of their leadership committees as well. Regarding One Health, she has been committed to its principles starting during her high school years and now serves as the Co-Chair of the legislated NJ One Health Task Force, a task force created with her invaluable input. As a women’s health clinician, she also is committed to improving maternal health for all women. She was a member of the leadership team responsible for creating Maternal Health Awareness Day (MHAD). MHAD, first commenced in NJ, has now been adopted by many states and professional organizations, including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. At Rutgers University, she is a member of the Rutgers Institute for Corporate Social Innovation (RICSI) Advisory Committee and the Global Health Office. For her work in global health, she was the recipient of the 2024 RWJMS Global Health Leadership Award. She is a Fellow of the American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA), serving as Co-Chair of the Music & Medicine Committee and as a member of the Nutrition Committee. She was recently honored by AMWA by being both an Inspire Awardee and by being named the Esther Pohl Lovejoy Awardee, which recognizes an individual for their commitment in improving international health. In the area of women’s health, she has a long history of being the principal and co-principal investigator on several clinical trials, including federally funded NIH protocols. Data derived from her participation in multiple research trials has added extensively to the literature and to many advances in health care. For these contributions, she was inducted as a Fellow into the New York Academy of Medicine. She is a graduate of Rutgers University and the Perlman School of Medicine, at the University of Pennsylvania. She also completed her Ob/Gyn residency training at the University of Pennsylvania.
