Suhayl Dhib-Jalbut, MD is the Ruth Dunietz Kushner and Michael Jay Serwitz Chair in Multiple Sclerosis and Director of the Rutgers/RWJUH Center for Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Dr. Dhib-Jalbut served as Chair of the Departments of Neurology at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (2003-2026) and Rutgers New Jersey Medical School (2015-2026). He is also past chief of neurology at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and senior vice president of neurology at RWJBarnabas Health (RWJBH).

Dr. Dhib-Jalbut graduated Alpha-Omega-Alpha from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon and completed his Neurology training at the University of Cincinnati. He then joined the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland, where he specialized in MS and Neuroimmunology.

Dr. Dhib-Jalbut transformed neurology and neuroscience across Rutgers and the RWJBH system through his visionary leadership, groundbreaking research, exceptional patient care, and a deep commitment to educating the next generation of physicians and scientists. As chair, he strengthened the Department of Neurology's clinical, research, and educational missions while helping position Rutgers and RWJBarnabas Health as leaders in the neurosciences. He fostered collaborations across both Rutgers medical schools and the health system, creating an integrated academic neurology program that continues to advance patient care. He expanded the joint department to more than 50 full-time faculty and led the growth and national recognition of several clinical and research centers of excellence in various neurological diseases.

As an internationally recognized physician and scientist specialized in Multiple Sclerosis, Dr. Dhib-Jalbut has made an impact beyond Rutgers. He has served as President of the Americas Committee for Treatment and Research in MS (ACTRIMS) and presided over the largest international MS Congress held in Boston. His extramurally funded research includes the role of the microbiome in MS, how MS therapies work, biomarkers of treatment response in MS, and a neuroprotective gene therapy. To date, he has contributed more than 150 scholarly manuscripts to the scientific literature. He has served as associate editor of the Journal of Neuroimmunology and the MS Journal, and he is a member of the Editorial Boards of the Multiple Sclerosis Journal, Cytokine, and the Journal of Interferon and Cytokine Research. He has served on several national and international scientific committees, including as Chair of the Scientific Committee for the World Congress on MS. Dr. Dhib-Jalbut has been on the Best Doctors in America list since 2009 and has received several awards and recognitions including the Medical Excellence Award from the National MS Society, the Norman H. Edelman clinical science mentoring award at Rutgers, the Outstanding Medical Scientist Award from the Edward J. Ill Excellence in Medicine Foundation, the Excellence in Research Award from the New Jersey Health Foundation, and the Chancellor Lifetime Distinguished Achievement Award at Rutgers. In 2019, he was named an honorary alumnus of Rutgers-RWJMS.
