Transforming Emergency Medical Care
The Department of Emergency Medicine at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School offers a residency program in Emergency Medicine, a fellowship in Emergency Ultrasound, education and training through our Emergency Medicine clerkship, and various electives related to the field. The department also staffs the Emergency Department of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, which serves as the medical school's primary teaching affiliate.
The Emergency Medicine Residency Program is dedicated to providing the ideal environment for residents to become compassionate emergency medicine physicians who will confidently provide evidence based, cost effective care to every patient they treat.

Emergency Medicine Academic Support Fund
Established in support of our commitment to advancing emergency medicine through innovation, research, and excellence in education.
Donations to this Fund directly support: Resident-led research initiatives; Academic enrichment opportunities; Conference participation and presentation, and Simulation and teaching resources
Our goal is to raise $5,000 to establish this new fund.

Academic Programs
The department offers an Emergency Medicine Residency Program that rotates residents through Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, a Level 1 Trauma Center and a leader in the provision of emergency care to the residents of central New Jersey. Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital is the only academic medical center and provider of tertiary and quaternary healthcare services in central New Jersey.
The Fellowship in Emergency Ultrasound is a one-year program, accredited by the Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship Accreditation Council (EUFAC) designed to solidify basic ultrasound skills attained in residency and develop expertise in advanced applications.

The Department of Emergency Medicine has developed several focused areas of investigation that include
- emergency department (ED) operations,
- emergency medical services,
- toxicology,
- ultrasound,
- medical student and resident education,
- resuscitation,
- and social emergency medicine.
Clinical Services
The Emergency Department at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital is a Level I Trauma Center that treats approximately 95,000 adult patients a year. We operate a separate department of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at RWJUH under the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Division of the Department of Pediatrics. Our team of faculty providers consists of physicians (100% board certified or board eligible in emergency medicine), physician assistants, and data control clerks (scribes).
