Message from the Chief

The mission of the Division of General Internal Medicine is excellence in patient care, education, and research. We strive to make our community and our University the best they can be. 

Our Division’s over 30 faculty members and devoted staff form a family that leads programs in Hospital Medicine, Primary Care General Internal Medicine, Geriatrics, Tobacco Dependence Treatment, Transfusion Medicine, Executive Health, Quality and Safety, and Medical Informatics. 

Our faculty provides hospitalist care at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital-New Brunswick, outpatient care at its Primary Care General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics practices, Executive Health Suite at the RWJUH Executive Health Program, and the Rutgers Tobacco Dependence Program, located here in New Brunswick, NJ.   

Educating our medical students and residents is an essential activity of the faculty who have received numerous teaching awards in recent years. We assist in directing the clerkship/sub-internship in medicine, actively participate in hospital teaching and consultative services, and teach evidence based medicine and critical appraisal skills. 

Our research program is diverse and well-funded, supported by grants from the National Institute of Health, Rutgers University, American Cancer Society, NJ Department of Health, and pharmaceutical companies. Faculty interests vary from clinical trials, outcomes research, medical decision analysis and informatics, dementia and cognitive functioning in the elderly, tobacco treatment and smoking cessation, osteoporosis, medical education, and transfusion medicine. Our faculty have recently published manuscripts in some of the most prestigious medical journals and have presented their findings at national and international meetings.
