Setting the Standard for Medical Excellence
The Department of Medicine is organized into 12 divisions covering the major medical subspecialties. Faculty are distinguished educators, successful researchers and excellent clinicians who provide primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary inpatient and outpatient care in outpatient facilities, centers and institutes and affiliated hospitals. They conduct cutting-edge research funded by the NIH, Foundations and the industry and publish in many prestigious journals.
We have an outstanding internal medicine residency program and fellowships in cardiovascular disease; endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism; gastroenterology; hematology and oncology; infectious disease; nephrology; pulmonary disease and critical care medicine; and rheumatology.

Academic Programs
The Department of Medicine offers exposure to 12 subspecialties for our medical students, residents, and fellows. Our learners are encouraged to become active and valuable participants in all aspects of our research mission.
We also offer an outstanding Internal Medicine Residency Program, numerous fellowships, and opportunities for postgraduate and continuing education.
Areas of Specialty
Pioneering Discovery
Committed to the advancement of scientific discovery, the Department of Medicine is actively involved in basic science, clinical, translational, and population-level research in each of our internal medicine subspecialties. Our research is funded by various sources including the National Institutes of Health and other federal agencies, state and foundation funding organizations, and pharmaceutical industry-sponsored trials.
Our faculty collaborates with departments across Rutgers Health as well as research institutions across the United States and around the world.
