Research Overview

Division research interests are focused on the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease at the Crohn’s and Colitis Center of NJ, being funded by various grants. Additional clinical studies include drug trials as national multi-center trials for new therapies.

A new area of research, with exciting developments, is the development of novel biomarkers for diagnosis of pre-cancerous conditions of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine and colon. The Division received a new RO1 grant from the NIH (NIDDK) for Studies of Barrett’s Epithelium.

The Division also focuses on mucosal immunology, under the leadership of Dr. Ellen C. Ebert. Endoscopic ultrasound, diagnostic and therapeutic management for biliary and pancreatic disorders and outcomes research in interventional endoscopy, are the focus of Dr. Tamir Ben-Menachem and Dr. Aram V. Manoukian.
