Research Grants

  • Shawna Hudson, PhD, professor of family medicine and community health at the medical school, and founding director for the Center Advancing Research and Evaluation for Patient-Centered Care (CARE-PCC), a four-year, $3.4 million P30 grant from the Department of Health and Human Services for “Learning Health System Scientist Training and Research in New Jersey (LHS STAR NJ)” sponsored by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.
  • Shin-Heng Chiou, PhD, assistant professor of medicine at the medical school and Rutgers Cancer Institute, a five-year, $2.4 million, R01 grant from the National Institutes of Health for “Elucidation of hypoxia-induced metastatic reprogramming through the regulation of KDM8 function in pancreatic cancer” sponsored by the National Cancer Institute.
  • Estela Jacinto, PhD, professor of biochemistry and molecular biology at the medical school, a four-year, $1.3 million, R01 competing continuation grant from the National Institutes of Health for “The hexosamine biosynthesis pathway in metabolism and cell fate,” sponsored by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences.
  • Ian Oldenburg, PhD, distinguished professor of medicine at the medical school, a three-year, $1.3 million, DP2 grant, from the National Institutes of Health for “Editing Population Codes for Action,” sponsored by the National Institute of Mental Health.

Additional grant of note

  • Lawrence C. Kleinman, MD, MPH, professor and vice chair for academic development, and director, Division of Population Health, Quality and Implementation Sciences in the Department of Pediatrics at the medical school was the co-recipient of a grant of more than $1 million for “Network of Biostatisticians for RECOVER (NBR)” from the Researching COVID to Enhance Recovery (RECOVER) Data Resource Core (DRC).
