Kindness in Action

In celebration of World Kindness Day on November 13, 2024, the Medical School partnered with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and RWJ Barnabas Health to kick off the second year of the Kindness Campaign - recognizing, celebrating, and encouraging acts of kindness every day.

World Kindness Day 2024 was a fun and engaging event across the campuses of Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, and RWJBarnabas Health. Keith P. Lewis, RPh, MD, Chantal Brazeau, MD, and Dean Amy P. Murtha, MD, began the day early welcoming all in the Clinical Academic Building lobby with KIND bars, "bee" kind pins and kindness stickers as a jazz guitarist provided live music. The day included visiting clinical spaces on several floors and concluded in the courtyard with soft and fluffy therapy dogs.

Enjoy this wrap-up video certain to brighten your day.

We'd also love to continue spreading the good word. We invite you to share an act of kindness you experienced at the medical school that showed why kindness matters. We hope to feature some of these stories in future issues of Weekly View's Kindness Corner. Share your story here!

In celebration of World Kindness Day on November 13, 2023, the Medical School partnered with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) to kick off a new campaign that recognizes, celebrates, and encourages acts of kindness every day.

As part of the campaign, teams of "Kindness Ambassadors" -- led by Dean Amy Murtha, MD; Vice Dean Keith P. Lewis, RPh, MD; and Rhonda M. Smith, PhD, Associate Dean for Faculty and Staff Affairs, at the medical school, and Odette Perriel, Vice President of Support Services, at the hospital -- walked throughout our facilities sharing the message that kindness matters.

The day began in the Clinical Academic Building lobby, where a member of Rutgers Mason Gross School of the Arts greeted visitors with a musical performance.  Therapy dogs warmed the hearts of everyone in the RWJUH courtyard and free coffee was served all day in the hospital cafeteria.  Dean Amy P. Murtha, MD and Vice Dean Keith P. Lewis, RPh, MD handed out gifts of KIND bars, stickers and other goodies, including thank-you cards that can be used to share appreciation for colleagues' acts of kindness.

Later, Dean Murtha, Dr. Lewis, Rhonda M. Smith, PhD; Chantal Brazeau, MD, Assistant Dean for Faculty Vitality and Chief Wellness Officer for Rutgers Health, along with Odette Perriel, continued the campaign, spreading kindness together throughout our facilities.

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine  celebrated kindness with a luncheon hosted by Chair, Valerie Fitzhugh, MD, for faculty, staff, and learners.

"Today was a day when our RWJMS community united to celebrate World Kindness Day. It was so energizing and invigorating to see how simple acts of kindness bring smiles and happiness to our beloved community," said Dr. Lewis.
