Q: What is a NetID?

A: All faculty, staff, students and guests are assigned a Rutgers unique identifier known as a NetID, comprised of initials and a unique number (e.g. jqs23). In order to access many of the electronic services available to you at Rutgers, you need to activate your Rutgers NetID. Your assigned NetID will appear on the activation screen.

Student FAQ's

Q: Does RWJMS offer a discount on AT&T wireless service? If so, where do i sign up?

A:Click Here for more information on how students can save 10% on qualifying AT&T services.

Q: What are the minimum specifications for the purchase of a laptop (hard drive space, memory, wireless type, etc.) that are needed?

A: RWJMS-OIT offers recommendations that should last throughout your four years of medical school. However, there is no need to purchase an new computer if you recently purchased a computer that has 160MB or more of hard drive space, 2 GB or more of RAM, and WiFi. Q: What is the level of support that OIT will offer older units that do not meet the technical requirements?

A: RWJMS-OIT Field Service Engineers are trained to support both Macs and PCs standard configurations; however, support for older systems or non-standard configurations will be provided based on available time. All issues pertaining to recommended systems will be addressed first.

Q: What will I be able to do with an Apple iPad?

A: RWJMS-OIT uses the Apple iPad to support Medical School Education ( see initial offerings); however, there are many applications available (some for free and others at a cost) at the Apple iTunes App Store that can be of significant value to all four mission areas. Q: What is the difference between an Apple iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad?

A: Basically the iPod Touch and iPad are the iPhone without the phone. The iiPhone can connect to the Internet via the AT&T or Verizon network as well as WiFi, while the iPod Touch and iPad can only connect to the Internet via WiFi. Separate data plans can be purchased for the iPad directly through your carrier.

Q: Will I still be able to carry out my school or work functions if I do not have an Apple iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad?

A: Yes. Using an Apple iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad simply provides mobile access to currently existing resources.

Faculty FAQ's

Q: What if I already have another phone plan?

A: Faculty who currently have another plan under Verizon have the option of transferring their phone number to the iPhone or keeping the new number that came under the AT&T plan.

Q: Which iPhone will I be receiving?

A: All faculty will receive an iPhone 7. The iPhone 7 is a GSM cell phone with a high-resolution display, FaceTime video calling, HD video recording, a 8-megapixel camera, Siri and more.

Q: What if I already have an iPhone (Rutgers/Personal)?

A: If you currently have a Rutgers iPhone 4, you may be eligible for an upgrade to an iPhone 7. If you currently have a personal iPhone, you have the option of transferring your number to the Rutgers iPhone. However, you may incur cancellation costs depending on the terms of your AT&T or Verizon contract. Please make sure to see if you are part of a family share plan as well.

Q: Is there a discount through the school that could be used towards the personal purchase of an iPhone?

A: Yes. AT&T offers RWJMS faculty and staff a discount of 15% on the service plan for personally purchased iPhones.

Q: What if I want a Blackberry, Droid, or other phone?

A: The only smart phones available for purchase through RWJMS funds are iPhones. The RWJMS Office of Information Technology has identified the iPhone as the best choice for RWJMS students, faculty, and staff as evident by the billions of applications downloaded to date and the robust development platform.

Q: How do I get an iPhone?

A: For faculty that are identified by the RWJMG as Patient Keeper users, the iPhone has already been procured and will be provided to you soon (you will need to attend training). For faculty that are not Patient Keeper users, fill out the Cellular Phone and Accessory Request Form to begin the procurement process.
