Ernest Leva, MD

Dr. Leva graduated from the University of Medicine and Surgery, L'Aquila, Italy in 1985. His internship and residency, along with a chief resident year, were completed at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School encompassing the Bristol Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital and St. Peter’s Children’s Hospital, both located in New Brunswick. After completing his residency, Dr. Leva joined the faculty of the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, orchestrating the birth of pediatric emergency medicine in New Brunswick. From its non-existence to its current divisional status, Dr. Leva was instrumental in planning all aspects of its evolution.

Currently Professor of Pediatrics, Department of Pediatrics, Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Dr. Leva serves as the division director. He has also served in multiple capacities for the State of New Jersey. From its inception, Dr. Leva has served on the Child Fatality, Near Fatality Review Board of the State of New Jersey, an advisory board to both the Commissioner of Health and the Commissioner of Children’s Services. He has served on the Emergency Medicine Services for Children Committee of the State of New Jersey, an advisory board to the Commissioner of Health for over 15 years. He has acted as a member, vice chair, and chair of the committee. Dr. Leva has served in numerous capacities for the New Jersey Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics; as the Section Chair of Emergency Medical Services for Children, district representative, as well as on other multiple committees. He has also served the state of New Jersey as both Chair of the Quality Assurance Committee and Chairman of the Children Hospital Committee. Dr. Leva is board certified in both General Pediatrics and Pediatric Emergency Medicine. His academic interests are primarily in general office preparedness and pediatric emergency care services in general.

Uchechi Azubuine, MD

Dr. Azubuine joined the Department of Pediatrics in July 2017. Dr. Azubuine attended Temple University Medical School. She completed her residency at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University in 2014 and her fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in 2017. Dr. Azubuine is the Director of Education within the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine. In 2018, she was the recipient of the Open and Affordable Textbook Award. Her fields of interest are Resident Education, Child Abuse/Human Trafficking. She is involved in multi-centered research study to assess risk factors for patients with Community Acquired Pneumonia.

M. Douglas Baker, MD

Dr. Baker, Professor of Pediatrics, Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School is an internationally recognized leader in pediatric emergency medicine. He earned his M.D. from Temple University and completed his residency in Pediatrics at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. After residency training, Dr. Baker engaged in fellowship training in newborn intensive care medicine at the M.S. Hershey Medical Center and pediatric emergency medicine at Children’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. He is board certified in both pediatrics and pediatric emergency medicine. Dr. Baker has chaired numerous national committees, representing the field of pediatric emergency medicine within the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Ambulatory Pediatric Association. He is also a member of the Society for Pediatric Research and the American Pediatric Society. Dr. Baker has been instrumental in developing pediatric emergency services at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital, and Children’s Medical Center, Dallas. Dr. Baker is currently Vice Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at RWJMS; and faculty member of the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at RWJMS and Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital. He has a distinguished record of clinical research accomplishment in topics related to pediatric emergency medicine, and in development of medical education products. Dr. Baker serves as a national consultant for academic programs in pediatric emergency medicine, and is a nationally recognized expert in the areas of evaluation and management of fever in infants, and in pediatric emergency medicine systems administration.

Richard Brodsky, MD

Dr. Brodsky acts as Assistant Director Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Director of Pediatric Telemedicine. Dr. Brodsky is a homegrown physician who graduated from Rutgers Medical School (Then UMDNJ - Piscataway campus), and completed his pediatric residency at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Bristol-Myers Squib Children’s' Hospital. He completed fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine at the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters in Norfolk, Virginia. After several years in practice, he returned home to the Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson system where he continues to strive for excellence in treating emergency conditions in the children of NJ.

Since starting at RWJ-BMSCH in 2016, Dr. Brodsky has been building the Pediatric Telemedicine Project. The goal of this program is to connect the adult facilities within the RWJBH system to our pediatric expertise at BMSCH. Using telemedicine and specialized robotic equipment, our pediatric emergency physicians have been able to remotely examine, diagnose, and help treat patients at our sister institutions without the need to transport. Recently this program has expanded to include more facilities and use pediatric subspecialist in the NICU setting.

Minh-Tu Do, MD

Dr. Do after graduating from medical school at the Chicago Medical School at the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Sciences in North Chicago,completed 3 years of pediatric residency training at Robert Wood Johnson/Rutgers University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He then completed his pediatric Emergency Medicine fellowship at the University of Rochester in Upstate New York, where he received a Master of Sciences degree in Clinical Investigation. In 2017 Dr. Do joined the Pediatric Emergency Division at Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson.

Since joining the Department, Dr. Do has served as the Director of Pediatric Emergency Medical Services and oversees the pre-hospital pediatric ambulance transports to our hospital. He is a member of the RWJ Barnabas EMS committee as well as the RWJ emergency preparedness committee. He has presented nationally and internationally on Emergency Department Quality Improvement projects, and is currently involved in research regarding EMS Quality Improvement, pediatric head injuries, and resident education.

Dr. Do is Board Certified in Pediatrics and board eligible in Pediatric Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Luckey, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, attended Pennsylvania State University where he obtained a Bachelor’s of Science in Bio Engineering.  After completing his medical training at The American University of the Caribbean in Saint Martin, he completed his pediatric residency training at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, NJ.   Following residency, Dr. Luckey continued on to receive Pediatric Emergency Medicine fellowship training at The Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters in Norfolk, Virginia.    

Dr. Luckey is board certified in Pediatrics and board eligible in Pediatric Emergency Medicine.  He works with the RWJ trauma service in New Brunswick as the pediatric emergency medicine liaison.  His academic interests have focused on primary care emergency preparedness and simulation training/education.  

Niel Miele, MD

After graduating from medical school at the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education and the State University of New York Medical Center at Syracuse, Dr. Niel Miele completed 3 years of pediatric training at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, PA. He worked in the Pediatric Emergency Department at the University of Rochester, during which he completed a Fellowship in General Academic Pediatrics. He served as the Assistant Director of the Pediatric Emergency Departments at Temple University Children’s Medical Center, and the Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo. In 2007, Dr. Miele joined the faculty at Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson as an Associate Professor of Pediatrics.

Since joining the Department, Dr. Miele has served as the Assistant Program Director of Pediatric Emergency Medicine. He has presented nationally on Emergency Department Quality Improvement projects, and is currently involved in research regarding Quality Improvement, Lyme disease, and sickle cell disease. Dr. Miele is Board Certified in Pediatric Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Trivedy, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, completed her medical degree at the Armed Forces Medical College in India. She completed her internship and pediatric residency from Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, NJ and pediatric emergency medicine fellowship from Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, Newark, NJ.

Dr. Trivedy is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.

After attending medical school at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., Rachael Grieco completed her 3 years of pediatric residency training at Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson University. Dr. Rachael Grieco joined the faculty at Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in 2009 as Clinical Instructor of Pediatrics in the division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Rachael Grieco's academic interests lie in pediatric resident education. Her clinical interests lie in express care medicine and improving patient flow through the emergency department. Dr. Rachael Grieco is board certified in General Pediatrics.

Matthew Pepper, MD

Dr. Pepper is a graduate of Cornell University. He graduated from the College of Medicine at the State University of New York Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY, and then completed his residency in Pediatric at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital. He is board certified in Pediatrics. Dr. Pepper is currently conducting research on the Pediatric Emergency Department’s treatment of asthma and bronchiolitis and its compliance with existing management guidelines. He also serves as the division’s business coordinator. Dr. Pepper has mentored numerous third year medical students during their Pediatrics rotation, and has received recognition from the RWJMS Professionalism Committee for perfect medical student evaluations with regard to communication, feedback, and professionalism. He is currently helping to design a web-based component of the Pediatrics Sub-Internship for 4 th year medical students.
